Calorie Counter

Defining a Calorie Counter

A calorie counter is a tool that helps you determine your daily caloric intake. Some people call them calorie calculators. These counters come in many different forms though they all serve the exact same purpose. However, do take note that they also differ in features, which becomes quite useful when trying to achieve individual weight loss goals.

Understanding Its Function

The main function of a calorie calculator or counter is basically to track either one’s calorie expenditure or intake. These tools do so by simply making an estimate how many calories your body will require. The information you get in return can be used to determine necessary adjustments to your diet or lifestyle. The goal of course is to achieve a healthy weight.

Types of Caloric Counters

There are many different types of calorie calculators or counters in use today. However, we can basically classify them into two general types – first are physical devices and the second are online calculators. Both of these forms of calorie calculators work and will provide anyone with the information they need.

The online calculators will require the use of a computer that is connected to the Internet. The physical devices on the other hand won’t require such resources. If you don’t have access to either type of calculator then your other option is to watch your food intake and how much exercise you’re getting.

Features of a Calorie Counter

As stated earlier, different types of calorie calculators or counters will have varying features. You can expect them to perform their most basic function, which is to calculate how many calories you’ve spent or how many calories you have taken in. Other than their fundamental feature, these counters can also provide an estimate of your daily calorie requirements.

Some calorie calculators have other functions and features other than the two mentioned above. Some calculators can also calculate the amount of fat calories as well. This way you have an idea of how much calories you derive from fat and other sources. Some counters have a separate calorie expenditure counting feature that tells you how much calories you have burned after a workout.

Buying a Calorie Counter

You have the option to buy a counter of your own, which will usually be an electronic device. On the other hand, you can also go for an online counter which would definitely be free. In case you’re after the feature that figures out how many calories you’ve burned, take note that there are separate devices like exercise machines that have such devices installed on them.

Always consider the cost of calorie counters and the features and benefits you gain from them. Remember that these devices are tools to help you achieve your weight loss goal. You still need expert advice from your physician and your own commitment in order to achieve a desirable weight range.
